5-7 hours hike

Norway’s most beautiful and easily accessible hiking trail! The hike across Romsdalseggen is located in the heart of Norway’s magnificent mountain world! On top of the ridge, you have a front-row seat to admire the Romsdal Mountains, with Trollveggen, Romsdalshorn, and Vengetindene as the most prominent peaks. Along the ridge, you can also overlook Kongen, Dronninga, and Store Trolltind. You can see all the way to the city of Molde and the Norwegian Sea. Far down in the Romsdalen valley, the Rauma River meanders, and we catch a glimpse of the train on the Raumabanen railway.

Information about the hike

Transport from the hotel to the Vengedalen parking lot where the hike begins. Follow signs towards Romsdalseggen, past a cabin, and up the hill along the river. Just above the treeline, the trail gently enters Hesteheian. Follow the path to the left, ascending along a distinct mountain ridge between Blånebba and Aakesfjellet. The view from the ridge is fantastic. The trail towards Åndalsnes transitions onto an exposed ridge towards Mjølvafjellet. Descend slightly and cross Halsaskaret before ascending to Mjølvafjellet. There is a short steep section here that is secured with chains. The terrain becomes slightly flatter towards Aakesvarden, and from here, there is a prominent ridge leading down towards Mjølvaskaret with an airy passage over to Høgnøsa. Continue downhill towards the stone cabin at Nesaksla and then follow a well-marked path from the summit back to Åndalsnes. There are some steep sections at the top secured with chains.

Remember to close gates behind you and be mindful of leash regulations for dogs.
